LINGAYEN— Nine fishermen from Bolinao were rescued a day after their fishing boat was hit by big waves and capsized in mid-sea December 27.

The police said the nine are all residents of Barangay Balingasay, Bolinao.

Rescued were Elmor Hernandez, Victor Ocampo, Roberto Pacheco, Dericko Gastillano, Vicente Arisgado, Abraham Renuhis; and three others only named as Joel, Reagan and Ronnel.

Police said despite high waves whipping the shore, the victims went to sea at dawn Monday for their usual fishing trip. But while in mid sea, their boat capsized after it was buffeted by big waves.

The first three of the missing fishermen were rescued by their fellow fishermen when they passed by the area where the boat capsized before noon last Monday.

The six others were later rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard in the afternoon of that day that responded to the rescue call.

All the fishermen have since returned home safely.
