Promise of Christmas
CHRISTMAS, as we celebrate it in the Catholic faith, is the birth of a promise. It is the story of hope.
And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” (Luke 2:9-14)
As we celebrate Christmas this year, let us remember the real meaning of this feast and embrace that promise, feel that hope in our hearts. Let us reach out and share our blessings with those who have less in life whose humility Jesus epitomized having been born in a manger.
At the same time, this being our first Christmas under a new leadership in the Philippines as well as under our new, re-elected, or re-positioned local government officials for the province and for each of the 44 towns and four cities in Pangasinan, we extend our hands to the rest of the Filipino people — and especially to the Pangasinenses here and abroad — for a joint prayer of hope for good governance, economic development, and social equity in Jesus’ name. May the promise of this beautiful season remind our public servants of their own campaign promises in the last election where the people put their trust in them.
Wishing everyone a Christmas full of hope and love from us here at The Sunday PUNCH!
