City fiesta celebration proceeding smoothly

SO far, so good!

This was the assessment of Hermano Mayor Councilor Jesus Canto of the 30-day celebration of the Dagupan City Fiesta that started December 1.

People are now awaiting the highlight of the fiesta on December 26 when Miss Dagupan, Joana Solomon and her entourage, Alannah Guselle Cuison, first runner-up and Mary Annel Calejo, second runner-up; will be crowned.

His Eminence Edward Joseph Adams, papal nuncio to the Philippines will be in Dagupan in the afternoon of December 27 to officiate in the official transfer of the Episcopal Seat of the Lingayen-Dagupan Archdiocese from the old Cathedral on Zamora Street to the new Cathedral on Burgos Street.

The entire officialdom of Dagupan city as well as members of the Catholic community in the city will be on hand to witness the historic ceremony.

The evening of December 27 will the fiesta’s Barangay Night to be led by newly elected Liga ng mga Barangay president led by Guillermo Vallejos, barangay captain of Poblacion Oeste.

This will be followed the next day by Rotary Night and Rizal Day celebration to be spearheaded by City Schools Superintendent Alma Ruby Torio.

The start of the celebration was marked with lighting of the giant Christmas Tree by all the city officials, the bright colored lights on the Quintos Bridge and the Magsaysay Bridge like mini-replicas of London Bridge and San Francisco Bridge, respectively.

Canto said these were the projects he asked Mayor Benjamin Lim to provide for when he was offered to be the hermano mayor of the Dagupan City Fiesta.

He expressed gratitude to Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez who also stood by him and fully supported the activities.
