Pangasinan shellfish still red tide-free

ALL types of shellfish and alamang gathered from the Pangasinan shores continue to be free from the red tide toxin, according to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

Shellfish Bulletin No. 27 dated November 5 states that shrimps, crabs and seashells like mussels and oysters gathered from the coastal waters of Bolinao, Anda, Alaminos and Wawa, Bani are free from toxic red tides and are safe for human consumption.

At the same time, the city agriculturist office in Dagupan, is monitoring the Magsaysay Market to prevent the possible entry of shellfish from other provinces which could be infected with red tide.

The same bulletin said shellfish from most parts of Mindanao and the Visayas are still positive for paralytic shellfish poison that is beyond the regulatory limit. Moreover, Bataan coastal waters (Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Balanga, Orani, Abucay and Samal) are now positive for red tide toxin.
