BARANGAY Lucao A won the championship in the Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez Cup (Inter-Barangay Boxing Tournament) when it amassed 22 points to capture the team championship prize of P10.000 Friday afternoon at CSI the City Mall Atrium.

Barangay Lasip Grande was first runner-up with 19 points for P8,000; and Barangay IV placed second runner-up  for garnering 17 points  to bag P5,000.

Lucao A’s four boxers captured the gold when they defeated their respective opponents in the finals They are Romar Coronia in the Antweight 32 kilograms, Rajie Reyes in the minimum weight 32 kilograms, Mike Baraquio in the light mosquito weight 36 kilograms and Mark Dan Sarmiento in the Bantamweight 54 kilograms.

Lasip Grande also produced four gold when Jivemin Macaranas prevailed in the light paper 40 kilograms which was duplicated by teammates Jacson Dacanay in the paperweight 42 kilograms, Leomar Vidad in the Fly 51 kilogram and Jugie Salem prevailing in the featherweight 57 kilograms.

Barangay IV earned its gold in no weight category of 27 kilogram when Dan Carlo Tandoc defeated his opponent while Virnie Cuyos captured the gold in pin weight 45 kilograms.

Boxers who won in each category received P3,000 for the gold, P2,000 for the silver; and P1,000 for the bronze.

The tournament, was sponsored by the Sangguniang Panlungsod, Heads and Shoulder Shampoo and CSI Group of Companies with Councilor Dada Reyna as project coordinator and Amateur Boxing Association referee/judge Jerry Macaranas as tournament director.

The tournament, sanctioned by ABAP and participated in by some 100 boxers aged 13 to 17 years old, was held for three weeks.
