20,000 Join Cristo Rey celebration
LINGAYEN–Some 20,000 Catholics from the province’s Districts 2, 3 and 4 and from the towns of Laoac and Bautista, both of District 5, began arriving in Lingayen last Friday to join today’s Christ the King celebration of the Lingayen-Dagupan Archdiocese.
Archbishop Socrates Villegas leads the celebration, along with 70 priests and bishops from 28 parishes and dioceses.
It’s the first time that the Christ the King celebration is being held in cooperation with the provincials government.
A short program will be held in front of the capitol where Governor Amado Espino Jr. will officially welcome the devotees. A celebration of the Holy Mass will precede the procession from the capitol towards the Lingayen town proper and back.
Provincial Administrator Rafael Baraan said this year’s celebration will be the biggest Catholic gathering in Pangasinan.
The police has issued new traffic routes in and around western Pangasinan for the day.
At least 35 medical personnel and those from the Lingayen Rural Health Unit will be deployed at the capitol grounds to attend to devotees needing medical attention.
