Update: Typhoon Juan
Dagupan City (20 October, 12:30pm)–The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported some 2,106 families or 8,815 persons in the province including two post-partum mothers were evacuated Monday to safer grounds and evacuation centers that were amply supplied with food and medicines.
Families living in coastal areas like Bolinao, Bani, Infanta, Sual, Lingayen and Binmaley were evacuated beginning Monday.
Three persons in barangay Dulig in Labrador town were rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard from flashfloods.
There were seven fatalities. Farmer Freddie Espinoza, 33 of Mangatarem town was hit by lightning. Ana Vidal, 29 of Sagud Baley in San Fabian town and her two kids, AJ, 4 and OJ, 2 were hit by an uprooted buri tree. Jeramie Patayan, 22 and her sister Sherlyn, 18 and cousin Vina Cruz, 16, all of barangay Tamayo in San Carlos City drowned while crossing a creek.
Last Monday, Ana Vidal, 29, of barangay Sagud Baley in San Fabian town perished along with her two kids, aged two and four, when a large palm tree fell on their house because of strong winds. They were rushed to the hospital but died along the way, it was gathered.
In Dagupan, a total of 528 families or 1826 persons from the coastal barangays were evacuated to safer grounds.
At 5 p.m. Tuesday, the provincial agriculturist put initial damage in agriculture at P353,016,558.
Losses in palay which are in reproductive and maturing stages reached P296,044,648. Fishery losses ran to P43 million; high-value crops, P9.5 million; corn, P4.2 million; and livestock, P230,000.
The province began feeling strong winds and rains Monday afternoon and continued until noon of Tuesday.
Meanwhile PDRRMC allayed the fears of many residents along the mighty Agno River about water releases from the San Roque Dam.
“Malayo pa sa critical level ang dam sa ngayon. Huwag mabahala ang ating mga kababayan subalit dapat maging alerto sila lalo na yong nasa malapit sa ilog dahil sa pagtaas ng tubig,” Paterno Orduna, PDRRMC director said. (PIA-Danny Sagun)
Dagupan City (Oct. 19, 12:30 pm) — The city information office reported 374 families were brought to evacuation centers, comprising 1,171 persons as of early dawn today Tuesday. No casualties have been reported.
City Administrator Vladimir Mata said evacuation centers have been supplied with food and basic necessities while medical teams have started initial diagnosis and treatment of sick evacuees.
Classes have been suspended in pre-school, elementary and secondary levels, City Hall announced at 5 a.m. today based on typhoon signal no. 2 raised over Pangasinan and its cities.
Bonuan was hardest hit by winds and tidal surge. Residents were evacuated at the North Central Elementary School, Senior Citizens’ Office at Tondaligan and at the Sabangan Elementary School. Others were brought to the Don Federico Ceralde Integrated and at Old Doña Josefa Manaois Hospital.
The Day Care Center in Mayombo accommodated 57 persons.
Mayor Benjamin Lim has been closely monitoring the situation till midnight Monday at the command center in the city museum building, said he discounted a declaration of state of calamity in the city after assessing the reports.(CIO – BFH)
