Student rescued from kidnappers
LINGAYEN–A female nursing student was rescued by joint elements of the police on October 3, 17 days after she was kidnapped by armed men in Sta. Barbara.
Rescued at around 4:00 p.m. in Barangay Mamonit, Mayantoc, Tarlac was Daphne Umandap, 19, who was abducted from her home on September 16 at Villa Sta. Barbara subdivision in Barangay Maningding by the armed suspects on board a blue van.
The police team was composed of officers from the Special Operations Group of the Pangasinan Provincial Office led by Superintendent Wilson Lopez, Police Anti-Crime Emergency Response (PACER) led by Supt. Rodolfo Castil Jr.,Tarlac Police Provincial Office led by Superintendent Jose Razalan and Tarlac Criminal Investigation and Detection Group led by Chief Inspector Richard Caballero, and the Regional Investigation Division of Police Regional Office 1.
In that operation, four suspects, one of them female, were arrested while the supposed ransom money of P458,000 was recovered. The names of the suspects were not immediately known.
The ransom was paid earlier by the victim’s parents but their daughter was not released.
The victim and the suspects were brought to the PACER office at Camp Crame in Metro Manila for further investigation.—LM
