PICPA supports P-Noy’s program on transparency
CALASIAO–The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountant (PICPA) has urged its members, especially those in government service, to observe good governance and transparency in the performance of their duties in support of the vision of President Benigno Aquino III.
The call was made by Jose Cabalum Jr., PICPA national president during the induction and turnover ceremonies of officials for the group’s Luzon Geographical Area (LGA) and the Northern Luzon (NL) at Regency Hotel here last September 25.
Ildefonso Calimlim, budget officer of Dagupan City, is the incoming chair of LGA and NL regions.
“It is but proper that that we practice good governance for the sake of our profession and to maintain our own integrity as professionals,” said Cabalum, stressing that Aquino’s program is grounded on his campaign slogan “Kung walang corrupt, walang mahirap”.
He cited the Bureau of Internal Revenue and Commission on Audit as among the agencies that employ CPAs.
Cabalum said while PICPA is a professional organization with no power to affect the decision of its members, it continually pursues “moral persuasion” to do right in their profession.
Meanwhile, Ronald Dizon, national vice president for operations, said PICPA will come out with the Quality Assurance Review, a body that will practically “audit the auditors” by January next year.—LM
