No more politician’s face on PhilHealth cards
P-NINOY’S NEW POLICY
PHILIPPINE Health Insurance (PhilHealth) cards issued by political leaders to their constituents will no longer bear the face of the benefactor or any other government official as has been habitually practiced.
PhilHealth information officer Sibelle Estrada said President Benigno Aquino III has issued an order to put a stop to practice placing politicians’ pictures on PhilHealth cards.
Speaking during the KBP forum last week in Dagupan, Estrada also announced that October 2 was set for the nationwide registration or enrollment of poor families into the health insurance system.
In the Ilocos Region, 41,949 families, representing five percent of the 220,925 total, need to be registered based on a list of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Pangasinan was the top province last year in terms of universal coverage, but a significant number of families also still need to be included in the system, said Estrada.
Dr. Ana de Guzman, provincial health officer, said there are currently 107,819 families in Pangasinan that have PhilHealth coverage through the provincial government’s program for which a P70 million fund has been spent.
Congressional representatives have also enrolled some of their constituents, De Guzman added.
Meanwhile, Lester Canto of the PhilHealth regional office, announced that the premium for those giving a voluntary contribution to PhilHealth remains at P100 per month.
On the other hand, the premium has been doubled for new registrants with a monthly income of at least P25,000.
