Modern day care center up in city soon

A MODERN day care center will rise in Dagupan before the end of December this year.

This promise was made by Mayor Benjamin Lim after being informed by a leading pre-school owner of the “appalling conditions of all day care centers in Dagupan”.

Tess Crisologo, a rated kindergarten teacher and Montessori operator in the city, recently met with Lim to present to him the current situation in Dagupan’s centers for pre-school children.

Lim said the planned day care center is part of his administration’s thrust to improve the delivery of education to alleviate poverty in the city.

Lim said he intends to have a program that covers kindergarten to secondary school.

“The only way to encourage a child to go to school is to provide them a good school conducive for learning. That is why we are preparing a master plan to re-structure our schools in the city,” said Lim.

He assured Crisologo that by December, the day care center will be open to children aged 3 to 4 years old in Bonuan Gueset, complete with all the needed facilities.

Crisologo, in her presentation, recommended the rehabilitation of almost all-operating day care centers in the city, which lack a proper play area, an important facility for learning socialization skills, and even basic facilities such as toilets.

PARENTS-TEACHERS

In a related development, Lim reiterated his commitment to the Federated Parents-Teachers Association (FPTA) of Dagupan City that he will prioritize the improvement of education.

At the same time, the mayor called on the FPTA to play an active role in the educational welfare of the children by improving the communication and feedback mechanism between the latter and the Department of Education.

He also said the group could serve as an important lobby group on how the school board fund should be used.

“You have to remember that a certain percentage of our real property tax collected goes to school board fund… I noticed that a big chunk of that budget goes to the expense of Ilocos Region Athletic Association (IRAA) and others when there are more important needs to spend that money for,” Lim told the group.

CHILDREN’S MONTH

Meanwhile, the city health office will be providing a comprehensive health care service through the child-care intervention project dubbed as “Garantisadong Pambata” this month in celebration of Children’s Month.

City Health Officer Dr. Leonard L. Carbonell, in a letter to the mayor, has outlined the city’s essential child survival package in line with Lim’s effort to reduce child illnesses and deaths and improve child survival as well as promote safe motherhood.
