LINGAYEN –The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will deploy its own men to augment the police personnel assigned to guard the Barangay and SK elections in Pangasinan during on Monday.

According to Superintendent Rosueto Ricaforte, police provincial director, 147 army soldiers will be deployed in the province during the election.

Ricaforte said the additional troops will be fanned out to different towns and cities, particularly those placed in the watch list.

Included in the watch list in this election are cities of Dagupan and San Carlos, the towns of Urbiztondo, Bayambang, Sta. Maria, Tayug, Natividad, Umingan and San Quintin.

A conference to finalize the strategic plan involving the police, Philippine Army and the Commission on Elections was held last Thursday in Lingayen.

Ricaforte said the augmentation force, including the police personnel who are already in the province, are more than sufficient to meet the existing needs.

Records of the Provincial Elections Office show there are at least 1,182 polling centers all over Pangasinan in this election.

Ricaforte expressed hope that elections in Pangasinan will be peaceful and orderly as he noted that the police have not monitored any intense rivalry among the candidates that could result in violence.

The PNP conducted 36 candidates’ forum and organized signing of peace covenants across the province to help ensure that no violence will erupt during the election.

One of the covenant-signing events was held in Dagupan City last Thursday among 500 candidates.
