ALAMINOS City’s tourism industry is getting another major boost as the local government builds its own hotel to attract more visitors to the Hundred Islands National Park (HINP).

The groundbreaking rites for the project, costing P35 million, was held September 30 coinciding with the fifth anniversary of the turn over of the HINP by the Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) to the city government.

The HINP, declared a national protected area, has undergone rehabilitation and transformation over the last five years and is now an eco-tourism destination under a sustainable environment-friendly program.

Mayor Hernani Braganza led the laying of time capsule at Lucap Wharp, the jump off point to the Hundred Islands.

To be called Alaminos City Hotel, it will be a two-storey edifice in Lucap with a total floor area of 1,796.22 square meters. When completed, it can accommodate up to 400 people at one time.

The hotel will have a mezzanine, a Presidential Suite with balcony, two 10-bed rooms, five guest rooms of varied sizes and designs also with respective balconies, restaurant and cafe, administrative room, lounge area, employees lounge and main kitchen.

Other amenities include capacity convention facilities and coffee shop, a small function room, swimming pool and souvenir shops, clinic, playroom, business center, lobby and lighthouse with view deck.

Construction of the first phase of the project, awarded to RR Encabo Construction and Traders, is ongoing and is expected to be completed within six months, in time for the tourist season during the summer next year.

Braganza said of the P35 million cost of the project, at least P27 million was loaned by the Land Bank of the Philippines to the Alaminos City government with an P8 million equity.

With the hotel, Braganza said, Alaminos can lure more domestic and foreign visitors to the Hundred Islands, considered as the number one tourist destination in Pangasinan, and encourage them to stay longer.—LM
