CATHOLIC priests at the Lingayen-Dagupan Archdiocese who reach the retirement age of 65 can now spend the rest of their years at the newly-opened Abong na Pari in Barangay Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City.

Auxiliary Bishop Renato Mayugba said the Abong na Pari, which was inaugurated recently, will mainly serve as a home for retired priests but will also be used as a residence by priests in the archdiocese and as a guest house for visiting priests.

The residence is a two-storey concrete building located in a spacious and quiet environ. The first and second floors will have four single rooms each, two dormitories, and a small chapel.

So far, three retired priests have signified interest to stay there and the archdiocese currently has 61 active priests.

“To the priests in the archdiocese, I can say this is our home. This is a home for the priests, not only for the retired priests but for all priests who need a day of rest or a day of prayer. They’re most welcome here,” Mayugba said.

Mayugba has been designated by Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrated Villegas as the administrator of the Abong na Pari.#
