Red Cross chapter now a regional blood center
THE Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) chapter in Pangasinan has been upgraded into an inter-regional blood center in line with the centralization of blood banks policy set by Department of Health and the World Health Organization.
Flora Mae Magalong, PNRC chapter administrator, said one of the justifications for the upgrade is the presence of 54 public and private hospitals in Pangasinan, to which the Red Cross can provide blood supply.
There are now 22 PNRC inter-regional blood centers throughout the country.
Meanwhile, Magalong also thanked the CSI Group of Companies owned by the family of Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez for donating P350,000 during the recent celebration of the International Humanitarian Law .
The amount will be used in constructing an extension building at the PNRC-Pangasinan office in Perez Market where new blood testing equipment and laboratory will be stored.
The structure is one of the requirements for an inter-regional blood center.—LM
