GOOD news for tricycle passengers in Dagupan, the tricycle fare matrix is back.

Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) Chief Robert Erfe-Mejia met Tuesday with the officers and members of several associations of drivers and tricycle operators in the city to the finalize details on the fare matrix.

The POSO started issuing the fare matrix on September 17 to all tricycle operators who were granted franchises.

The matrix, which sets the standard rates for tricycle fare, aims to protect the public from over-charging.

Under the fare matrix ordinance, the regular fare is P7 for the first four kilometers and an additional P2 for every kilometer thereafter per passenger; ‘special hire’, which refers to the amount paid for agreeing to occupy the entire tricycle for a single trip, is P15 per trip and P12 for senior citizen and student and an additional P1 for every kilometer thereafter; midnight is P28 and an additional P1 for every kilometer thereafter.

For non-compliance, the ordinance imposes penalties of P500 for the owner/operator and P200 for the driver for first offense; P1,000 for the operator/owner and P500 for the driver for second offense; and immediate cancellation of franchise for the third offense.

Mejia urged the riding public to report violations to the matrix, refusal and other abuses by tricycle drivers/operators at their office or call 523-7463, 515-5363, 0927-9332611.
