JDV encourages a computer in every home
MANAOAG–Former five-time Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. said every home in the province, and the whole country for that matter, must have a computer if the Filipino students hope to be truly at par with global standards.
Speaking during the opening of the Regional Science Leaders’ Congress Thursday at the Manaoag National High School, De Venecia said, “My idea is every family in the Ilocos region and in the entire Philippines should own and be able to operate a computer.”
De Venecia called on both families and politicians to help achieve a computer-per-home status.
The former Speaker and currently chairman of the Conference of all Political Parties in Asia, said, “instead of buying a refrigerator, a television set or a car, a family should first endeavor to buy a computer which has its multifarious uses.”
The computer, he said, is “a small printing press, camera, television machine, library and has all the wisdoms of the world from Adam and Eve to the present.”
De Venecia said he and his wife, 4th District Rep. Gina de Venecia, had adopted as their personal advocacy to provide a computer in each home in the district’s areas including Dagupan City, Mangaldan, San Fabian, San Jacinto and Manaoag.
For her part Rep. De Venecia, who was the guest of honor and speaker during the three-day science congress, said they had been addressing this need ever since by distributing computers initially to every public elementary and high school in the district.
“We politicians must all join hands to ensure that there should be one computer in every home,” Mr. De Venecia said.
The congress was attended by some 4,000 students from Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur, and Ilocos Norte.—LM
