Another ex-kapitan shot, politics eyed on motive

BUGALLON–A former chairman of Barangay Bongalon here was seriously wounded after he was shot by one of two men riding in tandem on a motorcycle at 6:30 a.m. of September 17 at the boundary of Barangay Magsaysay and Bongalon in Bugallon.

The victim, Mario Uson, 55, sustained gunshot wounds in various parts of his body and rushed to the Trauma Hospital in Dagupan City where he is under serious condition as of presstime.

Investigation showed that Uson was on board his motorcycle, which was overtaken by the perpetrators, one of whom opened fire on him using a Caliber 45 pistol.

The police are initially looking at politics as motive as Uson was the prime suspect in the killing two years ago of Barangay Chairman Loreto Ugaban, who beat then incumbent Uson in the 2007 barangay elections.

Ugaban was replaced by his nephew Joel Ugaban, the number one barangay councilman, who was also recently gunned down and killed just a few days after the May 10, 2010.

Uson is reportedly set to stage a comeback as kapitan of Bongalon in the coming October 25 barangay election.–LM
