6 towns, 2 cities in PNP watchlist
LINGAYEN–Six towns and two cities in Pangasinan are under the watch list of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in connection with the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections on October 25.
These are cities of Dagupan and San Carlos, and the towns of Urbiztondo, Bayambang, Sta. Maria, Tayug, Natividad and San Quintin.
This was announced during the Comelec-PNP Joint Conference on Friday attended by all Comelec municipal and city election officers and chiefs of police of the 44 towns and four cities of Pangasinan.
Provincial Elections Officer Reddy Balarbar said these two cities and six towns were tagged as areas of concern in this election due to perceived “intense candidates”.
Balarbar said he has also instructed all his election officers to monitor their areas for the possible outbreak of violence so that these can be immediately reported to the police and assessed whether for inclusion in the watchlist.
During the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) meeting last week, Governor Amado Espino Jr., who heads the RPOC, expressed belief that the Barangay and SK elections will be “more bloody” than the May 10 national and local elections.
GUN BAN
Meanwhile, the gun ban for the election period took effect midnight of September 25 and will last until November 10.
