Tayug police chief sacked under two-strike policy

TAYUG–The ax fell anew on this town’s chief of police due to the continuing violence perpetrated by armed men riding tandem on motorcycles.

Chief Inspector Satur Ediong was relieved last week by Police Provincial Percival Barba ostensibly under his two-strike policy. He is replaced by Chief Inspector Junio de Guzman.

Ediong was relieved after only two months in office, a similar fate suffered by his predecessor, Chief Inspector Ferdinand de Asis, who also had a short tenure as Tayug’s chief of police.

Under Ediong’s watch,  a barangay councilman was killed and another person was shot but survived by still unidentified assailants.

Ediong has been transferred to Agno, a town smaller than Tayug.

The relief of Ediong came while different ecumenical churches are still conducting a so-called “prayer warfare” among their flock in hopes to stop the crimes that has been terrorizing the town.

Since the “prayer warfare” was launched, no new crime has so far been reported.

Official records indicate that nine persons were killed and another wounded since after the May 10 election, all of whom were gunned down by armed men riding in tandem
on motorcycles.

Several barangay officials reportedly remain in hiding for fear that they might become the next victims.

Tayug is considered as the melting pot and center of trade and commerce in eastern Pangasinan.–LM
