Prov’l Comelec wants barangay polls to push through
PUSH through with the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in October.
This is the stance of Lawyer Reddy Balarbar, provincial election supervisor, who said the provincial office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is prepared for the scheduled polls.
“Gusto kong matuloy, nandito na tayo. Another gastos pag ma-postpone,” Balarbar said, noting that election personnel are rendering overtime work to prepare for the coming polls.
Barangay chairmen around the country have called for a postponement and several members of both the Senate and the House of Representatives have expressed support for it.
Balarbar added that should there be a postponement, he hopes that the election will be held by next year, not 2012 as proposed by the barangay officials.
“Overlapping na yong preparations namin kung i-postpone sa 2012 at may parating na eleksyon na naman sa 2013,” he said.
Preparations for an automated election, he pointed out, will take more than a year as shown by their experience in the first automated polls in May 2010.
CONTRIBUTION
Meanwhile, Balarbar reminded barangays about their mandated contributions for the barangay and SK elections, ranging from P10,000 to P20,000, to pay for the allowances of the board of election tellers.
He said some barangays did not contribute any share in the last barangay elections.
