Pangasinan PNP gets 27 new rubber boats
LINGAYEN–In case of another flood this rainy season, the Pangasinan police will come better equipped for the rescue and relief operations with the acquisition of 27 new rubber boats last week.
The inflatable boats were turned over last July 27 by Police Regional Director Orlando Mabutas to Police Provincial Director Percival Barba.
Mabutas, who was on his first command visit to the Pangasinan Provincial Office since assuming his post as Police Regional Director earlier in July, said the rubber boats came from the headquarters in Camp Crame and were made available as part of the PNP Transformation Program.
The new rubber boats will be distributed to police stations with priority given to flood-prone cities and municipalities, to boost the limited number currently owned by the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) and a few city and municipal disaster councils.
Mabutas said the provinces of La Union, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte will also receive new boats enabling the Region 1 police to respond faster to emergency calls during floods.
Pangasinan used to depend on the help of the Naval Forces Northern Luzon for rescue operations given the limited number of rubber boats available in the province.
“MEDALYA NG PAPURI”
While in Pangasinan, Chief Superintendent Mabutas pinned the Medalya ng Papuri to the chiefs of police of Tayug and Dagupan City and several of their officers for meritorious accomplishments after they succeeded in arresting an armed suspect and a suspected marijuana dealer, respectively.
Before visiting the Pangasinan Police Office, Mabutas paid a courtesy call on Governor Amado Espino Jr., himself a retired police colonel who also previously served as Police Regional Director of the Ilocos and police provincial director of Pangasinan.
Earlier, Mabutas made available to the Pangasinan Police Office some 53 Cal. 99mm. pistols and 51 shotguns.
Before the arrival of these weapons, statistics showed some 600 policemen in Pangasinan had no firearms of their own.—LM
