Mushroom-raising seminar for housewives set August 14
ROSALES–In preparation for the construction of a state-of-the-art mushroom processing plant here this year, a multi-purpose cooperative will hold a mushroom-raising seminar for housewives on August 14.
The seminar will be conducted by the Balikatan Farmers’ Multi-Purpose Cooperative headed by Ven Abalos, a group engaged in mushroom raising.
Lectures and hands-on sessions will be facilitated by Abalos and technicians from the Department of Agriculture (DA).
Abalos said with the technology developed by his coop, households even in urban areas can raise mushrooms inside their homes for personal consumption or to sell back to the coop for processing.
The DA earlier committed to extend a P16 million assistance to the Balikatan cooperative for building the mushroom processing plant.
The cooperative, which already has a laboratory for mushroom production, will provide a counterpart fund of more than P23 million for the plant.
The Balikatan, soon to produce canned, dried and powdered mushrooms as well as mushrooms in capsules, has been helping the DA in promoting mushroom-raising not only in Pangasinan but throughout the Ilocos Region.–LM
