FILIPINAS Wado Ryu, based at the RVG Gym in Dagupan City, scored 5 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze medals in the Smart Karate Kids competition held August 21-22 in Pasig City.

Those who brought home medals were Narayana Mesina who scored a gold in Kumite and bronze Kata; John Enrico Vasquez, gold Kata; Ma. Raniella Isabel Gutierrez, gold Kumite, Alexis Louise Nuñez, gold Kumite; Zhargiemaye Kaille Juguilon, gold Kumite.

Silver winners were Celina Koleen Juguilon, Gilbert Arelano, Gabriel Valenzuela, Kristele Ira Zabala, and Eljay Jose. John Matthew Manantan contributed one bronze.

The event, participated in by 400 Karatekas, was sanctioned by the Philippine Karate-Do Federation and the Philippine Olympic Committee.

Dr. Enrico Vasquez, regional karate director and chief instructor of Filipinas Wadol Ryu, said four more developmental Karate competitions are being lined up to make the team in top shape for the 24^th PKF National and the 2012 AKF Asian Karate Championships.
