AFTER CALL FOR PRAYER POWER

TAYUG–Ministers, priests and lay leaders of Tayug met and have agreed to adopt “prayer power” in their hope to stop the series of killings here, which are believed to be perpetrated by guns-for-hire.

However, just two days after the meeting, another man was shot and wounded in Barangay Trenchera by armed men riding in tandem on a motorcycle.

The victim, Ferdinand Estioco, sustained a gunshot wound in the back and was rushed to the Tayug Family Hospital then later transferred to the Sacred Heart Hospital in Urdaneta City.

Nine other victims have been previously shot and killed in the town by men riding in tandem on a motorcycle.

Those who attended the meeting were ministers of the Evangelical Church, Baptist, Methodist, Independent, Episcopal, Peace Church, Espiritistas, Church of Christ and UCCP.

The group will also sign a manifesto demanding action for peace to be presented to Mayor Carlos Trese Mapili, the town’s chief of police, the police provincial director, the police regional director and Governor Amado Espino Jr.

Rev. Arsenio Co of the UCCP said aside from waging the prayer warfare, he and members of his congregation will distribute bibles to the people “so they can understand God’s teaching and follow the path to peace”.–LM
