Fishpond owners get fingerling assistance

FIFTY fishpond owners from the island barangays of Lomboy and Salapingao recently received their share of free bangus fry from the city government.

A total of 100,000 bangus fry were given away through the city agriculturist office with each recipient getting 10,000 fry.

Mayor Benjamin Lim encouraged the fishpond owners to farm the fry and not sell them in the market for a quick profit.

The first 100,000 fry distributed were part of the two million to be given away by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources for Dagupan City alone to help fish farmers who suffered losses during the series of typhoons last year, according to City Agriculturist Emma Molina.

The island barangays of Lomboy and Salapingao were given priority as they are expected to be affected by the ongoing river clean-up drive being undertaken by the provincial government in the Agno River System which starts from the town of Binmaley and downriver to the city of Dagupan.
