3 stores in Dagupan padlocked
WITH the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s (BIR) continuing “Oplan Kandado”, the bureau padlocked on Tuesday three merchandise stores owned by one lady entrepreneur at the downtown area in Dagupan City for failure to pay the right amount of taxes.
The establishments, selling mostly goods from China, were simultaneously raided by BIR personnel headed by BIR Regional Director Tomas Rosales and BIR Revenue District Officer 4 Yolanda Ferrer.
Ferrer said surveillance was conducted on the establishments for 10 days on reports that the stores were not issuing sales invoices and also under-declared their sales by more than 40 percent.
The owner reportedly already had a previous violation for not issuing invoices to customers.
After the surveillance, the owner was informed of the violation through a 48-hour notice, and later through a five-day VAT notice. The owner, however, still failed to settle the obligations.
Rosales said these establishments had been temporarily closed pursuant to Section 115 of the Tax Code of 1997 on order of new BIR Commissioner Kim S. Jacinto-Henares.
The owner of the establishments was given up to five days within which to settle her tax deficiencies and if she fails to do so, the establishment will remain closed.
Under Operation Kandado, only the Commissioner of the BIR can direct the lifting of the closure order.
Last year, the BIR also padlocked six popular restaurants in Dagupan, Binmaley and Urdaneta City as well as six branches of a drugstore chain.
Rosales said the latest closures involve establishments that are bigger than the earlier ones
The BIR, according to Rosales, continues to monitor other establishments that are suspected candidates for a closure order.
He said there are at least 20 establishments in the region targeted to be raided soon but he declined to name these.—LM
