Public warned vs. contagious diseases
RAINY days are here and the provincial health office has issued a reminder to the public to guard against diseases that arise during the season.
Dengue remains as the top most dangerous disease, followed by chicken pox, measles and respiratory infections, according to Dr. Roderick Asuncion, a PHO Pediatrics Division training officer.
He added that gastroenteritis could also become prevalent from contaminated drinks and food
At the same time, Asuncion reassured the public that all these diseases could be prevented.
“As early as six months old, a baby must be immunized with anti- measles vaccine if there are many cases of measles but the usual injection period is nine months among infants,” Asuncion said during the KBP Forum last week.
“Environmental sanitation and personal hygiene are always the most advisable ways to prevent the spread of diseases,” he added.
Asuncion also advised against hospital visits unless extremely necessary.
“Iwasan ang pagpunta sa mga hospitals kung wala kayong transactions dahil maraming sakit na pwedeng makahawa,” Asuncion said.
He also encouraged mothers to breastfeed their children upon birth pointing out that mother’s milk has antibodies that help prevent diseases.
