LINGAYEN–Outgoing Vice Governor Marlyn Primicias Agabas, who is moving on as Representative-elect of the 6th District, is leaving with a grand salute from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP).

The SP, which is chaired by the vice governor, passed a resolution hailing Primicias-Agabas as the “new Wonder Woman in politics” in Pangasinan.

A copy of the resolution, proposed by Board Member Alfonso Bince Jr., was handed to Primicias-Agabas during the 107th regular and final session of the SP last June 21. Bince describes her as someone who has “won all her political battles in grand manner”.

Primicias-Agabas entered politics as the number one municipal councilor of her hometown, San Nicolas. Then she ran for 6th District board member and stayed there for nine consecutive years. She is only the second lady vice governor of Pangasinan after Nancy Sison, wife of the late Justice Porfirio Sison who himself served in the same position.

In the last election, Primicias-Agabas pulled a surprise when she beat her closest opponent, Retired Armed Forces Chief of Staff Hermogenes Esperon, by a wide margin.

Bince said Primicias-Agabas will be long remembered as a hands-on vice governor, a consensus builder, and one of the more patriotic and nationalist vice governor.

Her best legacy in the provincial board was the out-of-town sessions that brought the SP closer to the communities and the people.

In her valedictory address last June 21, Primicias-Agabas thanked Governor Amado Espino, Jr. “for leading Pangasinan to the golden era of its history”.

“The people of Pangasinan have regained their pride as Pangasinenses because of the tangible progress in our midst,” she said adding, “the members of the 6th SP are elated by the fact that so many things have been accomplished during this particular term of office.”

Other members of the SP who also delivered their respective valedictory address were Board Members Nestor Reyes and Liberato Villegas who lost their bids for different positions.

Also not returning to the SP are Board Members Romeo Dadacay and Danilo Dizon, Charizzma Carancho-Go and Alice Pulido.—LM
