Candidates beat deadline

A TOTAL of 52 candidates for provincial and congressional positions beat the June 24 deadline for the filing of certificates of expenditures and contributions during the campaign period for the May 10 election.

Re-elected Governor Amado Espino Jr. spent the most among the candidates, registering a total expenditure of P4.31 million, all from his personal funds.

Coming in second was Espino’s defeated opponent, 2nd District Representative Victor Agbayani who spent P4.1 million. Agbayani received a P2 million contribution from the Liberal Party and another P1 million from individual supporters. The rest came from his personal funds.

Agbayani’s losing partymate, former Vice Governor Oscar Lambino, spent P4 million of which P1.5 million was contributed by his political party/organization and other supporters.

Espino’s runningmate in Lakas-Kampi-CMD, Vice Governor-elect Jose Ferdinand Calimlim, the outgoing mayor of Mapandan, registered an expenditure of more than P3 million.

In the congressional race, the biggest spender was re-elected 3rd District Representative

Rachel Arenas with P787,765.83, of which P328,978 was contributed by supporters.

Congresswoman-elect Gina de Venecia of the 4th District spent P730,936, of which P430,936.80 were contributions.

Her opponent, losing candidate Celia Lim reported spending P662,395.58 out of her personal funds.

Sixth District Representative-elect Marlyn Primicias-Agabas, the outgoing Pangasinan vice governor, registered a total expenditure of P728,980, of which P370,000 came from her political party/organization.

Fifth District Representative-elect Carmen ‘Kimi’ Cojuangco, the outgoing mayor of Sison town, spent P633,831.84, all from her personal funds.

Representative-elect Jesus Celeste of the 1st District reported spending P240,747 while one of his opponents, Makibaka Pulido, spent more at P581,258.37, all from her personal funds.

Winning 2nd District Representative Leopoldo Bataoil reported spending P173,000 and at least P50,000 of this was contributed by other persons.

The lowest spender among all congressional candidate at P50,000 was outgoing Burgos Mayor Domingo Doctor who ran in the 4th District.

Among the candidates for provincial board members, former Rep. Ranjit Shahani was the biggest spender at P408,382.91. Shahani topped the race for the two-man seat for board member in the 6th District.—LM
