ALAMINOS CITY–Fisherfolks and motorboat operators here enjoyed a last summer hurrah when they took part in the first Alaminos Aqua Sports Festival held last June 5 at the popular tourist destination Hundred Islands National Park.

The event, organized by the city government in partnership with Cord Chemical Inc. and Cord Boat Builders Association (CBBA),  featured boat races in three categories: Bancathon (motorboat with out-rigger and flatboat), Balsa (straight race) and Regata (sailboat).

Retired Col. Manuel Credo, the city’s consultant on Coastal Resource Management, said the aqua sports fest is a post celebration of the Pista’y Dayat held every first day of May throughout the province.

The event, Credo said, is intended to give motorboat operators a fun break from work and at the same time remind them of their responsibility for the safety of their passengers and helping save the marine environment.

“It is also one way of thanking our friends from the fishery and motorboat operators sector for their valuable contributions in helping boost the city’s booming tourism industry,” added city councilor Earl James C. Aquino, SP committee chair on Agriculture.
