San Carleans dominate “Takbo”
THREE San Carlos City foot-racers lived up their billing as the best runners in Region 1 by dominating the Takbo Ang Simula Sa Pagbabago, organized and sponsored by ABS-CBN last April 24.
The marathon, which started and finished at the Dagupan City plaza, was won by Elmer John Casildo who outsprinted city mate Kevin Areglado in a mad dash to the finish in the last 150 meters.
The duo pocketed P5,000 and P4,000, respectively and plus a medal each. Casildo clocked the 3.3-kilometer distance in nine minutes and 55.20 seconds, while Areglado registered a slower time of nine minutes and 57.28 seconds. Mark Anthony Niro came in a little far third and had a time of 10 minutes and 18.10 seconds and worth P3,000.
In the women’s category, San Carlos City lass Lany Cardona topped the distance in a convincing fashion with a time of 12 minutes and 47.11 seconds to bag the P4,000 first prize. Juna Torralba of Sison checked in second with her 13 minutes and 33.27 seconds to earn P3,000. Jessica Bautista, also of San Carlos City landed third with a clocking of 13 minutes 35.52 seconds to net P2,000.
Special awards were given to six-year old Irene Pamela Jimenez as the youngest runner and received P1,000, 64-year old Ms. Virginia Zafra as the oldest runner worth P1,000, PNP as the biggest professional group (30 runners) and Pugaro Elementary School as the best student group (seven runners) and received P3,000 each, respectively.
Best in Fun-Run costume was given to Resty Mandapat of San Carlos City worth P1.500. There were a total of 182 starters. -JAG, Jr.
