A BIGGER export market is being targeted for the Dagupan bangus with the operation of the newly built seafood processing complex in the city.

Director Westly Rosario of the National Integrated Fisheries Technology Development Center under the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources said the complex can process at least five tons of fish a day and hold up to 40 tons of seafood daily.

“With the facility, we can be sure na mas lalaki ang market ng Dagupan bangus,”’ Rosario said during the Pantongtongan Tayo radio program of the Philippine Information Agency Tuesday.

Rosario also clarified that the complex does not pose a threat to small-time processors, and it was actually built to help them.

He added that the complex, designed for bangus processing and other shellfishes and echinoderms like cucumber, is open to the produce of other towns and provinces.

“The facility will prioritize products from Dagupan City but to sustain its operation, we will also accept bangus from other municipalities and provinces,” he said.

Rosario stressed that everything that will enter the complex will be properly inspected and that products from other towns should be from accredited producers.

Dapat  alamin natin kung ano yung kinakain ng dala nilang bangus, kung saan galing, kung anong quality ng tubig kasi, maganda ang reputation ng Dagupan pagdating sa bangus and at the end of the day, sa packaging lahat ng lalabas sa facility ay may nakalagay na ‘Processed in Dagupan City ’ kaya dapat salain mabuti lahat ng pumapasok.” Rosario said.
