MAYOR Julier Resuello of San Carlos City, who is running for re-election, has received a clearance that he has no pending case before the Ombudsman’s office.

The clearance, signed by Lourdes Palomo Salazar, Graft Investigation Officer II by the Authority of the Ombudsman, was issued upon the request of Resuello for travel abroad purposes.

The clearance states, “This certifies that as of April 27, 2010 Julier C. Resuello of Local Government Unit, San Carlos City, Pangasinan, has no pending criminal and administrative cases with this office”.

It was earlier reported that a four-page complaint supposedly received by the Office of the Ombudsman on 16 April 2010 filed by a group called the Concerned Citizens of San Carlos City.

In that complaint, cited as respondents in the possible case of malversation of public fund were Resuello and Lenny Fermin, cashier of San Carlos City.

Resuello, in a call to The PUNCH, said he is not aware of that complaint and that he should have been the first person to receive it and not the media if there really was one.

He also questioned the so-called “Concerned Citizens of San Carlos City” who purportedly filed the case, saying these people are hiding under the cloak of anonymity and he challenged the group to identify themselves.

Last year, a case of malversation of public funds involving personnel of the city government’s treasurer, which was investigated by several agencies, including the National Bureau of Investigation, and a fact-finding committee created by the mayor.

The findings of these investigations led to the imposition of administrative sanctions against some employees of the city treasurer’s office, including Fermin.

Fermin was suspended by Resuello but is now back in office after serving her suspension.

It remains unresolved where the missing 27 million fund is and who should be made liable for the loss.—LM
