Karate-Do event a hit

PARTICIPANTS from 36 karate clubs in 12 regions around the country joined the 23rd Philippine Karate-Do Federation National Championships held April 21-22 as part of the 2010 Bangus Festival in Dagupan City.

The PKF National Championship, an annual event of the Philippine Karate-Do Federation, serves as a venue for the Philippine Team Selection and for the promotion of sports karate at the grassroots level.

Team Dagupan City collected four gold medals, eight silver and seven bronze.

The Dagupan medal harvest was lead by CHED National Champion Jayson Ramil Macaalay of Lyceum Northwestern.

Others who brought home medals were John Matthew Manantan, John Enrico Vasquez, Mark Andrew Manantan, Narayan Mesina, Kelvin Rosario, Alexis Louise Nuñez, Jalil Magandia, Carlos Abrasaldo, Kristele Ira Zabala, Franchesca Valenzuela, Jed Franco Recel, and Jessa Lopez.

The head coach of Dagupan Kumite team is Lary Bautista and Dagupan Kata coach is Prosecutor Ferdinand Parayno.

The YMCA-based team Dagupan City is trained in the Filipinas RYU Karate headed by Dr. Enrico Vasquez.
