Hong Kong students here for service projects
A GROUP of 23 junior and senior high school students from the International Christian School in Hong Kong were in Dagupan City from May 15 to 21 to undertake community service projects under their program “Week Without Wall”.
Together with their elder Steven Ross and two other school officials, they linked up with the Living Lights Foundation School in Bonuan Gueset under Pastor Mario Tombok.
Among the activities they participated in were planting citrus fruit trees inside the Naval Reserve Center Northern Luzon headed by Lt. Commander Oliver Fernandez along with some 20 naval reservists.
They also assisted in painting and repairing school facilities and cleaned beach shores.
They also visited handicapped children at the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center in Bonuan and visited the Haven for Boys and Girls in Bonuan Binloc.
The students vowed to come back next year to see how the trees they planted have grown.
Ross explained that the program “Week Without Wall” is a combined service trip and learning activity for students outside the walls of their school, including foreign countries.
He said their school will send another group of 24 students to Dagupan in May next year.–LM
