Gina goes for Noynoy

IT no longer matters to Manay Gina de Venecia, candidate of the Nationalist People’s Coalition in the fourth district, whether a formal coalition exists between the Nacionalista Party and the NPC. She is endorsing the Liberal Party’s presidential bet Benigno Aquino III.

Her endorsement of Aquino did not come as a complete surprised since she agreed to team up with old political allies and re-electionists Dagupan City Mayor Al Fernandez and Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, both LP candidates, now known as GAB (for Gina-Al-Belen).

Her husband, Rep. Jose de de Venecia Jr., co-founder of Lakas-NUCD, is still mum on his choice for the presidency. All that he knows is the Lakas-Kampi coalition is “sinking fast like the Titanic” and he wants Lakas to leave the coalition.

Manay Gina, who was initially endorsed by the NP when she filed her candidacy last year, said she no longer feels compelled to endorse NP bet Manny Villar after the latter endorsed her opponent, Celia Lim, an independent candidate.

She acknowledged that NP was the first party to endorse her but she said other parties subsequently endorsed her as well including LP, Pwersa ng Masa and PDP Laban.

The congressman’s wife said she was disappointed when she learned Villar endorsed Lim who was not even a NP member.

Lim is the wife of the NP mayoralty bet and former mayor Benjamin Lim, NP candidate for the mayoralty in Dagupan City.

Meanwhile, Manay Gina’s allies, city councilors Farah Decano and Jose Netu Tamayo, said Villar blundered when he chose to finally endorse an independent candidate.

“Surely, he cannot expect Manay Gina to continue to endorse him after what he did,” they said.

“It’s his loss, not Manay Gina’s.” they added.
