Dagupan is “best managed city”
ISO 9001 certificate earned
MAYOR Alipio Fernandez Jr. announced today that Dagupan City has earned the seal of the world’s best known management systems standard ISO 9001.
He said the city counts itself today as one of the first local government units in the country to bag the international seal of quality in customer service and management systems.
“We have been working hard on this since 2007. I am pleased our shared efforts have paid off,” he said after the city successfully hurdled the second stage audit conducted by Certification International Philippines, Inc. (CIPI) last April 27.
Fernandez said implementing and maintaining a management system needs educated managers of all levels to develop specifically-tailored systems that would complement existing processes for optimized business performance and results.
“If you’re a good manager and you want to take your business to greater heights, do what the leaders do: be organized, streamline your processes, follow the world’s best practices, and implement management systems that suit you,” he said.
Since assuming office in 2007, Fernandez has introduced vast changes on how business transactions are carried out at the City Hall.
He said he has ably steered the city government by improving processes in the issuance of business permits and licenses at the One Stop Shop Business Center.
Despite the forlorn state of the city’s, which was languishing in huge loans since his return as local chief executive in 2007, Dagupan is now set to reclaim its status as a well-managed, first class city, he said.
The ISO 9001:2008 certification has been issued by the Governing Board of the Certification International Philippines, Inc. (CIPI) through its lead auditor Joselito Soler.
As an ISO-certified organization, Dagupan is required to maintain its quality management system (QSM) under ISO 9001:2008, the CI’s condition of certification, including the use of CI’s Certificate of Recognition and Quality Mark.
Dagupan is the first city north of Manila to get this certification and the only local government in the region to be awarded several other recognitions, including the 2009 Most Business Friendly LGU Special Citation for Quality Management and Innovation, 1st runner up in the 2009 Search for the Best LGU in Region 1, and a citation for being the first local government unit to effect the full implementation of Republic Act No. 9485, otherwise known as the Anti-Red Tape Act of 2007.
Fernandez said that the certification will become Dagupan City’ s instrument for enhancing its competitiveness and to meet the needs and expectations of Dagupenos.
He said the city commits to continually upgrade its competencies to serve not only the people in Dagupan but also those from other neighboring cities and provinces who wish to access its services. (CIO/RR)
