“Walk with God” held for peaceful election

MANAOAG–Catholic devotees led by Fr. Jerry Orbos, joined by police and military men, took a 13-kilometer walk last week from Urdaneta City to this town known as a pilgrimage site to pray for peaceful and orderly elections on May 10.

“We dedicate this walk to God, as a sacrifice and with a special intention for an honest, orderly and peaceful elections,” said Orbos during the opening prayer before their take off in front of the Urdaneta City Catholic church.

“We pray that the Lord will give us good leaders in our land,” he added.

The walk, dubbed “Walk with God”, is a regular event initiated by Orbos in 1989.

Orbos said “(t)his is the biggest number of participants, so far,” with a crowd of about 8,000.

“It’s also a petition walk for those who wanted to ask something from Mama Mary,” Orbos said.

Manaoag is a popular pilgrimage site for the miraculous image of the Our Lady of Manaoag at the town church.

Chief Inspector Ferdinand de Asis, police chief of Tayug, and his wife, for example, have been participating in the walks over the last eight years.

Major Miguel Codero led at least 350 soldiers from the Northern Luzon Command who joined.

Chief Supt. Constante Azares, police regional director, also participated with 115 police chiefs from the Region 1.#
