MANAOAG–A portion of the public market here with properties estimated to be worth P30 million was burned down on April 20 due to a fire believed to have been caused by an over-heated refrigerator.

At least 39 stalls located in the front building of the public market were affected by the blaze that broke out at 3:00 a.m. and was put under control one hour later.

The fire was completely tapped out at 6:00 a.m. by the combined firefighters from the town and the neighboring municipalities of Pozorrubio, Mangaldan, San Fabian, Binalonan, Villasis, the cities of Urdaneta and Dagupan City, and the Panda Firefighting Brigade from Dagupan.

Senior Fire Officer 2 Emmanuel Angeles, fire investigator of the Manaoag Police, said initial investigation show that the fire seemed to have started in the store owned by Zeny Mercado due to faulty electrical wiring.

Burned were the mini-groceries, sari-sari stores, optical shops, pharmacies, stores selling dry goods, agricultural supply and cell phones.

Meanwhile, Mayor Napoleon Sales immediately met with the members of the city council to map out plans for the relocation of the displaced market vendors.–LM
