Ex-military men make good public servants
LINGAYEN–Ex-military men can be a boon to local governance as well as in legislation.
Retired PNP Director Leopoldo Bataoil cited ex-military and police officers in Pangasinan before him who became successful in their public careers as local government executives and legislators.
He cited Governor Amado Espino Jr. who is doing good as chief executive of Pangasinan and who was once a member of Congress for two terms.
He said if he succeeds in his bid to become congressman, he would not waste his time preparing another blueprint for development in the second district because one was already prepared by then Rep. Espino when he was still in Congress.
Bataoil said he intends to make his efforts in Congress jibe with the vision of Governor Espino for the whole province of Pangasinan.
He also cited Mayor Reynaldo Velasco who is now making a difference in his hometown as mayor of Sta. Barbara. He initiated significant reforms and succeeded in pursuing social and infrastructure projects in his municipality.
Mayor Ricard Revita, formerly a police inspector, was instrumental in putting Rosales in the development path as the nerve-center of economic activities in eastern Pangasinan.
Retired police director Marcelo Navarro Jr. is also making waves as mayor of Bani town.
Lest people forget, he said former President Fidel Ramos was a former chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and as the country’s chief executive he made the Philippines as an economic tiger in Asia.- LM
