Change and hope in Easter
TRANSFORMATION and hope are at the core of Easter — two ideals that even our non-Catholics or non-Christians brothers and sisters can share in today’s celebration.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ stands for a transformation from death to life; it signifies a passage from darkness to light; a triumph of good against evil. Easter sends forth the message that there is always hope for something better.
This kind of transformation is what our country direly needs. With the scheduled national and local elections on May 10, we can take a step forward towards meaningful change. But this is only possible if the electorate will conscientiously choose to vote for candidates who can lead us towards real development, one where economic progress is felt not just by the rich few but by the majority who are poor. No change in government will be possible if there is no corresponding change that begins among the people, within each individual. And so today, as we celebrate Easter Sunday, we raise a call for reflection on our choices: Who best represents our hope for that transformation that we want for our communities, our towns, our province and our country?
Looking back on Agew na Pangasinan
THIS week will go down in the history of the province as the first time that the Agew na Pangasinan is celebrated.
Pangasinan, which officially turns 430 years old as a province tomorrow, April 5, will benefit from looking back at its history as Pangasinenses gain a deeper knowledge of its struggles and triumphs in the past, the people who have made the province proud, and the other unique facets of its culture and traditions. With a better understanding of their history, Pangasinenses will have a stronger sense of identity which, in turn, should inspire to dream and work for an even more improved Pangasinan. A people that appreciates its past will aspire to advance in the future.
The Sunday PUNCH joins the province in the celebration of Agew na Pangasinan, with a fervent hope that this day set for remembering serves as a marker for better things ahead for our province.
