Dagupan is overall karate champ in Palaro
DAGUPAN City’s team, carrying the Region I Team banner, scored five gold medals, nine silver, and six bronze, making it the overall champion in the Karate Event of the 2010 Palarong Pambansa held April 12 at Diwa ng Tarlac, Tarlac City.
John Enrico Vasquez (Mother Goose) scored two gold medals in the Kata and Kumite event, John Matthew Manantan (La Sallette) won a gold in Kata, Ma. Raniella Isabel Gutierrez (La Mareae) won a gold in Kumite and silver in Kata, and Mark Andrew Manantan (La Sallette) won a gold in Kumite and bronze in Kata.
Other players who brought home medals were Jeramiel Gutierrez (La Mareae), silver and bronze; Kristele Ira Zabala (Wonderland) silver and bronze; Carlo Abrasaldo (Ednas School), 2 silver; Kaille Juguilon (Creative Montessori), silver and bronze; Matthew Serafica (St. Robert Bellarmine), silver and bronze; and Celina Juguilon (Creative Montessori) and Jesamine Lopez (Calasiao Education Center) a bronze each.
The team is coached by Larry Bautista, a teacher at Malued Elementary School and trained by Filipinas Wado Ryu based at YMCA Dagupan City.
Dr. Enrico Vasquez, Region I Karate Do Director, said the team is now undergoing intense preparations for the 23rd PKF National Open Karatedo Championship scheduled on April 21-22 at the CSI Stadia.
