Dagupan City aims for ISO certificate
DAGUPAN City has set its sights towards on earning an International Organization for Standardization (ISO-9001:2008) certificate, that will serve as proof of the city government’s compliance with international business management standards.
Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. said the city government is optimistic in bagging the seal of quality management after successfully hurdling the first stage audit conducted by the Certificate International Philippines for ISO 9001:2001 certification.
He said the result of the first audit augurs well for the city and the result of the second stage audit is expected to be released next week.
“Getting an ISO certification on quality management system requires going through very tedious processes. But we are unfazed by these rigid requirements,” Fernandez said.
Karen Ubando, Dagupan City Active Learning Team head, said the city government’s efforts to earn the ISO certificate has greatly improved the way its business has conducted since last year.
“There used to be lots of paper works and long queue for application for permits at the One Stop Shop Business Center. Now it just takes less than a day to complete transactions like this,” Ubando said.
According to Murita Fernandez, the city government’s Quality Management representative on ISO certification, said the audit team also lauded Dagupan’s manual on quality management and other documentation requirements in connection with business processing and issuance of permits.
ISO standard is regarded as globally accepted norms for quality assurance, concentrating on customer satisfaction, management responsibility, and continuous improvement.
The prestigious ISO standard, recognized in 159 countries, is designed to monitor performance metrics while continuously tracking and improving operational processes.
“We continue to hold the belief that if we were to make a difference in governance, we first have to make a case for change,” Fernandez said.
He said the city will continue to harness a policy of transparency and performance management so that its 600-strong government workforce will continue to achieve results in making Dagupan City a business-friendly city.
