LINGAYEN–It’s all systems go for the first-ever celebration of Agew na Pangasinan on April 5 to commemorate the 430th Foundation Anniversary of the province.

Sixth District Provincial Board Member Alfonso Bince credited Gov. Amado Espino Jr. for his strong sense of history and helped establish Pangasinan’s founding day.

Espino, who said “Pangasinenses deserve to know their point of origin”, created a special research and study committee, chaired by Atty. Gonzalo Duque, president of Lyceum-Northwestern University, which determined and recommended that the founding day of the province be established as April 5, 1580.

Bince also commended the transformation of the Sison Auditorium into the Sison Cultural and Heritage Center where historical documents and other cultural artifacts will be enshrined.

The newly refurbished Sison Auditorium, named after the late Governor Teofilo Sison who served as the first secretary of national defense from Pangasinan, will be inaugurated on April 5 as one of the highlights of the celebration.

Another highlight of the event will be the presentation of the ASNA Awards program honoring outstanding Pangasinenses who made remarkable historical imprints in various fields of endeavors over the last 430 years.

Former provincial governors and their families have also been invited, including Governor Conrado Estrella who at 93 years old is considered as the longest living former chief executive of Pangasinan.

Bince urged all Pangasinenses to join in the festivities, which he described as a “resurrection of Pangasinan’s history”.

Other events lined up include a Parada na Dayew Mi civic parade that will showcase historical timeline of Pangasinan, the unveiling of the provincial seal and historical marker showing 1580 as the foundation date, a concert featuring famous bands, and a grand display of fireworks at the Lingayen beach area.

Groundbreaking ceremonies for the Pangasinan Eco-Tourism Zone in Barangay Estanza, where a world-class 18-hole golf course is set to be constructed, will also be held.–LM
