Two toddlers die in Mangaldan fire
MANGALDAN—In this unusually extremely hot weather, the electric fan is easily becoming the next common deadly cause of fire in the neighborhood.
An over-heated electric fan ignited a blaze that gutted a two-storey house in Barangay Bari here at noon of March 16, killing two toddlers left in a room by their mother.
The fatalities were Zarich Dana, 3, and her sister, Venix, 2, daughters of Adora Beth De Los Santos.
The fire broke out at 12:00 noon, spread quickly and lasted for one hour.
Investigation showed that the mother of the victims was washing clothes when the fire broke out.
Electrical consultants have warned that electric fans should be allowed to rest after two hours of continuous use, and should always be wary of children being left alone with an electric fan running.
Romy Erestingcol, an uncle of the victims, said the mother of the girls might have panicked as she tried to douse the fire with water instead of evacuating her two daughters.
Firemen from Mangaldan, Dagupan, San Fabian and the Panda Fire Fighting Brigade helped extinguish the fire.—LM
