LINGAYEN–Now that a date for Pangasinan’s founding anniversary has been determined, the 430-year old province will be celebrating its birthday for the first time on April 5.

A provincial ordinance declares April 5 as official public holiday in Pangasinan.

Provincial Information Officer Orpheus Velasco said the province is now preparing for the event which will feature the ground-breaking rite for the proposed Lingayen Eco-Tourism Zone and the inauguration of the newly refurbished Sison Auditorium as highlights of the celebration.

Velasco said the Lingayen Eco-Tourism Zone, envisioned to become a major landmark in the province, will include a world-class golf course and other tourism amenities.

The Sison Auditorium was restored, alongside other improvements undertaken within the Capitol grounds, to its old pre-war design as the province’s center for performing arts.

Atty. Gonzalo Duque, head of the research and study committee that determined the founding date of Pangasinan as April April 5, 1580, has been named chair of the celebration by Governor Amado Espino Jr.

Meanwhile, all qualified officials and employees of the Provincial Government of Pangasinan will receive P3,000 each as anniversary bonus.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed an ordinance last week for the fund appropriation for the bonus.–LM
