‘Operation Baklas’ continues

GARBED in his military uniform as a reserve Army captain, provincial election officer Reddy Balarbar led the second ‘Operation Baklas last Friday, this time in Dagupan City.

Campaign materials of national candidates were posted outside the designated common poster areas were torn down by a team with representatives from the Commission on Election (Comelec) and the City Engineering Office.

Balarbar said Dagupan, the biggest urban area in Pangasinan, has been teeming with illegally-posted propaganda posters, particularly along the Tapuac-Lucao Road.

Balarbar again reminded candidates and their supporters that there are designated common poster areas in every barangay where they can post their materials.

“If they don’t know where these are, they should go to the election offices to inquire, otherwise their tarpaulins will be useless as these will be removed,” Balarbar said.

He said if the common poster areas prove to be insufficient, Comelec would designate additional areas.

Operation Baklas, however, continued to spare tarpaulins of known local candidates since the campaign period for local positions will only start on March 26.

But Balarbar vowed that before March 26, “we will remove all tarpaulins of candidates if the candidates and their supporters will not do it themselves”.–LM
