Team Energy: No power failure on election day

TEAM Energy Philippines, the company operating the coal-fired power plant in Sual, has pledged there will be no power failure during the first computerized election on May 10.

Greg Romualdez, Team Energy’s senior external affairs manager, assured that the almost four-hour rotating brownout in Luzon last month when one unit of the 1,200 megawatt Sual Plant bogged down is not likely to recur.

Speaking at the KBP forum on Thursday, Romualdez said they now have 56,000 metric tons of coal in stock that is good for six weeks and regular deliveries are also scheduled.

The problem last month was mainly due to lack of coal supply for the plant.

Romualdez said coal is now being delivered to the plant regularly by San Miguel Corporation.

At the same time, Romualdez said Team Energy has already installed a big net underneath its generator close to the sea to protect its cooling system from being swamped anew by jellyfish and disrupt plant operation.

Such an incident took place 11 years ago when an equivalent of 56 truck loads of jelly fish swarmed the plant’s cooling system, causing interruption in plant operation.–LM
