Spare the bridges – DPWH

LINGAYEN—With the start of the campaign period for national positions on February 9, a district engineer of Pangasinan has appealed to supporters of candidates to spare bridges as venues for posters and other campaign materials.

District Engineer Rodolfo Dion of the second Pangasinan Engineering District lamented how even newly-built bridges that are beautifully-painted are turned into a common poster area by candidates every election time.

“Some candidates, especially those seeking national positions, accuse the government of wasting money, corruption, etc., but look at what they do. Isn’t that wasting also people’s money?” Dion said.

“Perhaps we should better make a campaign for people not to vote for candidates who are not law-abiding,” Dion added.

He cited as an example how a candidate for councilor in Dagupan City recently had his name painted in big bold letters along the new De Venecia Highway Extension.

Dion’s office has since repainted the vandalized highway.

He complained that even directional signs on the road are not spared.#
